By land from Anacapri: €18. Twelve for the rowboat, six for the entry, both paid at the bottom of the stairs on the day. Add €2.40 for the Staiano bus, €2.90 if you buy on board, or €7.50 for a day pass. Nothing is booked. The route in full is on going without a tour.
By boat from Marina Grande: €41 to €42. The motorboat transfer first, then the same €12 and €6 at the cave. The transfer is listed at €24 in the regional tariff and €25 on the island sites, so I write the range rather than choosing. This is how most visitors arrive, and it is more than double the figure they usually have in their heads.
Carry €19 rather than €18. One island site prints a €19 total and its own reduced-fare arithmetic implies a €13 rowboat; no official source confirms €13, so I will not assert either as settled. Carry cash as well: the €12 is handed to a boatman. Every charge is broken down on what it really costs.

What a tour costs on top
Day trips sold from the mainland and from Capri itself run from €25 per person for the cheapest island circuit to €399 for a private boat, and that last figure buys the boat rather than a seat on it. Every one of them still leaves the €18 at the cave for you to pay on the spot, because none of them includes grotto entry, and none of them moves you up the queue.
